Advent history and related ponderings (recent sample)

Dear Subscriber,

We are officially immersed in the season of Advent! According to the fascinating perimeters of our church calendar history (which involve the not-so-exact-science of counting backwards from Easter), Advent begins anywhere between November 27th and December 3rd. This year’s Advent season began on December, which is officially the latest date that Advent can begun. Another odd calendar-related fun fact this year is that the last Sunday in Advent is actually on December 24th: Christmas Eve.(Want more? Nouwen. “In a particular way, God demonstrates his wisdom further in the mystery of the Incarnation: it is not enough that the awesome God enters time to be one of us, but he does so as as baby. It is in the face of a chld that his or her parents see a reflection of God’s love. It is in the face of the infant Jesus that we actually see God-with-us.Heavenly Father, thank you for the joys of the season of preparation! Give me a heart to see you more clearly in the people I meet today! Amen.”

In the spirit of the season,
Katy
